This week, it was great to see that layoffs and unemployment have stayed low, which means job security for many workers. Plus, wages are on the rise, giving people a bit more financial breathing room. On top of that, mortgage rates have dropped just a bit, making it easier for more folks to step into the housing market.
Shoppers embraced the holiday season discounts, a good sign of people's spending power. However, trade tensions with China and disagreements on tackling plastic pollution highlight global challenges.

Police believe it was a targeted attack from a lone gunman believed to be waiting for Thompson. The suspect was not yet found or identified. |
Super Micro Computer 👍 63% 👥 50% | 🌏 50% | 💰 55% | Confidence Crisis Super Micro Computer was cleared of accounting fraud and misconduct allegations by a special audit committee, countering earlier concerns raised by a former auditor who left the company abruptly. The AI tech supplier will seek a new Chief Financial Officer after the committee found some lapses in proper accounting practices. Still, it won't have to correct any past financial statements. |
Tesla 👍 61% 👥 41% | 🌏 54% | 💰 69% | Compensation Clash Tesla’s multibillion-dollar pay package for its CEO, Elon Musk, valued as high as $100B, has been rejected again by a Delaware judge due to his influence over the board, the excessive amount, and a lack of transparency. The automaker plans to appeal, adding uncertainty as to whether it can retain Musk’s attention from his other four companies as it struggles with slower growth and rising competition. |
Volkwagen AG 👍 72% 👥 57% | 🌏 49% | 💰 55% | Workforce Standoff Volkswagen’s German factories stopped on Monday as roughly 66,000 workers nationwide walked out on temporary strikes due to planned cost reductions and layoffs. Europe’s largest automaker is struggling with decreased demand for electric vehicles, higher operational costs, and intense competition from other manufacturers. |
Apple Inc. 👍 68% 👥 58% | 🌏 57% | 💰 70% | Silencing Dissent Apple is being sued for allegedly spying on employees' devices by installing software to access emails, photos, and other personal data and preventing them from discussing pay and work conditions. The tech giant is separately facing other charges over paying women less and stifling discussion about pay inequities while monitoring workplace messaging apps. |
