It was a slow news week for the economy as we head into the end of the year. The most important thing to watch will be inflation. Not much else matters because only inflation will determine how policymakers act. Living costs will determine whether consumers can keep spending to support the economy. If wages can’t catch up to the cost of living, there’s little hope for a rebound. Regardless of how difficult it gets, policymakers won’t turn off their restrictions if inflation stays high.

The good news this week: it’s looking like policymakers are winning the fight against inflation.
