We’re well into the first week of earnings season, and so far companies are looking really healthy. On average, profits have been much higher than investors expected, but they’re still wondering whether this is the best we’re going to get. Layoffs last week hit a new pandemic low. Manufacturing numbers in the New York area came in strong. The Federal Reserve Chairman told Congress today that inflation will be temporary.

Investors get excited about "stock buybacks" because it makes their investments more valuable.
