 Today's Market: Shrugs  S&P 500 Index (aka The Market): 4,141.59, ⬆️0.3%  

Markets continue to hover around all-time highs. Investors have been worrying about inflation picking up, given all the federal spending, but today's numbers weren't enough to spook anyone. The J&J pause could slow the progress of the economic recovery, but not by much.

Inflation is a measure of how fast prices are rising. A toothbrush costs more now than it did 20 years ago. When inflation rises too quickly, it can have numerous negative impacts on the economy. Normal inflation (~2%) is fine, though, and a sign of a healthy economy.
