Markets drifted upward today after an ugly close to last week. FedEx's warning of slowing shipping activity shook investors' confidence in the economy.
The Federal Reserve, aka
the Central Bank, will announce its next policy update this Wednesday
. Given that inflation is sticking around longer than policymakers had hoped and unemployment is still at historic lows,
the Fed will likely keep restricting the economy until inflation slows significantly
. The Fed is expected to raise interest rates again this week to make borrowing more expensive.
Homebuilders are feeling less optimistic with homes so unaffordable.
Home prices are at record highs, and mortgage rates have doubled in the past year, slowing demand from home buyers. The National Association of Home Builders sentiment index has declined every month this year. The average 30-year mortgage rate rose above 6% last week for the first time since 2008.

🤓 Inside Scoop...
An
Initial Public Offering (IPO),
aka
"going public,"
refers to the first time a company asks us regular people to invest. Before that, you had to know somebody or have a ton of money to get behind the red rope. They sell shares of their company to the open market in exchange for our cash. Companies can use that cash for all sorts of things, typically to further build their business. It also makes it easy for any previous investor or early employee to sell their existing shares on the market.
