Markets faded after an early jump from another better-than-feared inflation report.
Yesterday, we learned
consumer prices stayed flat in July
, as tumbling costs for gas and transportation offset climbing prices for food and rent. Overall,
everything we spend money on is still 8.5% more expensive than a year ago.
Today, the Labor Department reported a decline of -0.5% in its Producer Price Index. T
he stuff businesses spend money on got cheaper overall in July
but still sits 9.8% more expensive than a year ago.
Weekly layoffs continue to creep up
. The Labor Department reported 262,000 initial unemployment claims last week, more than economists expected.
Gas prices are coming down.
AAA says the national average at the pump fell below $4/gal for the first time in five months.

As companies set target dates to achieve
net-zero emissions
, they'll be setting emission reduction targets for their
Scope 1
(direct),
Scope 2
(power-related), and
Scope 3
(indirect) emissions. Scope 1 & 2 result from its core operations and the power it purchases to support those operations. Scope 3 will be much bigger and more important but harder to tackle. It includes the Scope 1 & 2 emissions from all of their suppliers, the emissions from their products, and even things like employee commutes.
