The market wavered and ended lower today without any dramatic news.

Consumers are losing confidence in the economy

. The Conference Board reported another decline in its US Consumer Confidence Index in November, as Americans expressed a gloomy outlook on economic conditions ahead.

Housing prices keep falling.

The S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller National Home Price Index fell for the third month in September as soaring mortgage costs continued to deter home buyers.

Jobs reports this week will be important for policymakers. Headlines about

mass layoffs have mainly been concentrated in high-growth tech companies

that got overzealous in the post-pandemic boom. This week we'll hear whether broad layoff rates are still low and if jobs are still plentiful.

🤓 Inside Scoop...

Energy companies are pushing to decrease their

carbon intensity

, meaning they might not commit to producing less fossil fuel, but they might find ways to reduce the overall net

greenhouse gas emissions

per barrel. One way energy companies are decreasing their carbon intensity is with

renewable natural gas

(RNG). RNG companies capture the greenhouse gas emissions from organic waste like landfills and cleared crops and repurpose them to replace fossil fuel natural gas. It's an easier fuel swap for the machines burning it. While burning still emits greenhouse gases, it's basically recycling emissions that would have already occurred, lowering the net overall emissions.
