The market drifted lower today after the holiday weekend as investors worried about economic unrest.
Protests have erupted in China over its covid control policies that have stifled the economy.
The unrest has created further concerns for the 2nd-largest economy. Last week, protestors clashed with police at Apple's largest iPhone manufacturing facility.
Shoppers spent more than ever online this Black Friday,
calming some fears that inflation has stalled consumer spending. Adobe recorded over $9B in online sales across retailers. Consumers drive 70% of the US economy, so investors are watching to see if inflation will go away before high prices stall spending.
The risk of a railroad worker strike is high
after the largest union rejected their most recent contract proposal last week. A stoppage could freeze nearly 30% of US cargo shipments, increase business costs, and push prices higher for a wide range of goods.

🤓 Inside Scoop...
Mergers
and
acquisitions
are a core component of corporate expansion and development. When a company wants to expand into a new market or absorb new resources that another company has, it'll typically hire an investment bank (like a real estate broker, but for companies) to help identify, value, and negotiate a deal with the target company. The acquiring company may take on debt to fund the deal, trade its stock, or use its cash reserves. The acquisition can be an all-cash deal, where shareholders receive cash in their brokerage accounts, or an all-stock deal, where your shares of Company X turn into some amount of shares of Company Y, or some mixed combination of the two.
