Big Picture
The market had its best day in years.
The worst of inflation may likely be behind us.
Layoffs spiked last week.
The Market:

| 5Yr:

Markets soared today after the release of the October inflation report, with the S&P 500 jumping the most since 2020.
Investors are happy about the October inflation report
. The cost of everything consumers spend money on is 7.7% more than a year ago, and prices are still rising, but
we're no longer seeing the rapid surges
of the first half of the year. Overall, the Labor Department reported its consumer price index rose only 0.4% in October.
The price of food rose at the slowest level in ten months.
The prices of meats, poultry, fish, eggs, cereals, and bakery products rose, but fruits and vegetables got cheaper. Inflation is the rate at which prices increase, so low inflation still means rising prices but at a less noticeable pace. Some things might get cheaper, but that's not always the case.
Layoffs increased more than expected last week.
The Labor Department reported initial unemployment claims of 225,000.
The market surged because investors hope cooling inflation and a weakening economy will mean less restrictive economic policy.

🤓 Inside Scoop...
As companies set target dates to achieve
net-zero emission
s, they'll be setting emission reduction targets for their
Scope 1
(direct),
Scope 2
(power-related), and
Scope 3
(indirect) emissions. Scope 1 & 2 result from its core operations and the power it purchases to support those operations. Scope 3 will be much bigger and more important but harder to tackle. It includes the Scope 1 & 2 emissions from all of their suppliers, the emissions from their products, and even things like employee commutes. It's basically the full evaluation of how much
greenhouse gas
is emitted each year because the company exists.
